Citizens are the soul of our Smart Nation vision
At the heart of every Smart City is human-centric design. Involving human perspective for an immersive understanding of the problems faced, allows for more innovative solutions to be developed, so that communities become empowered.

Strate School of Design
Openness, complexity, sustainability, sharing, digital transformation: the 21st century is about challenges. This is why we train women and men who give meaning to their fellows’ life situations. Everything needs to be done to make useful and beautiful moments out of all our experiences.
Established in 1993 in Paris, we are one of the top institutions in the design education world. We have built deep partnerships with top universities and are retaining permanent interactions with the industry. Hence, we have crafted unique and pioneering curricula for our students, that combine interdisciplinary modules with concrete industry projects.
Master in Design for Smart Cities Programme
For more than 20 years, Strate School of Design has been at the forefront of design institutions across Europe. For the first time in Singapore, we are proud to present our two-year full-time Master’s, which takes on an innovative human-centric approach to train designers for the 21st century.
The multidisciplinary approach of combining design, humanities, technology and management, is taught through the model of Design Thinking and Design Doing, where students craft innovative solutions based on design methodology and extensive hands-on practice. They will enjoy a meaningful, project-driven and employability-focused education in a full-fledged Computer Lab (3D/AR/VR).
Our pioneering graduates will be equipped with the nuances of smart design, and create sustainable and solution-focused services and products that will address human issues in urban environments. They will be inspired with a passion to build beautiful lives in a smarter city.
The holistic Design Thinking and Doing process will challenge them to seek solutions outside the norm, turning them into visionaries, making them valuable and highly employable for our vision of Smart Nation.
Our launch marks the revolutionary start to Singapore’s transformation into a Smart Nation.
Be prepared for an exciting future.
"Singapore, on many accounts, is setting the present and future standards of a liveable environment for city dwellers in Asia.
Education, Industry, Urban Planning, Sustainability, Research: on all these strategic issues, Singapore has always been at the forefront and two steps ahead even of the most advanced nations.
Design has clearly been identified as the strategic force by the government and all industrial players.
As much as our above illustration reveals, Singapore and the region will need 21st century designers capable of tackling complexity and conceiving life scenarios in Smart Cities, putting enhanced human experience at the core and above the sea-level line of the necessary technological tools.
Singapore is the natural place to host the first Asia Master in Design for Smart Cities."

"As we are eager to train efficient and innovative professionals, the school’s educational project is fully structured around the relationship with the industry. People teaching at Strate are all hands-on practitioners, ensuring the relevance of their lectures with the professional world.
The 2nd semester industry-sponsored projects involve our students in tangible issues of a specific company; they thus have to address its real needs, and endeavour to fulfil these requirements. The internship that completes our Master is not only an opportunity to deal with the corporate challenges but is often the stepping stone to an exciting career."
